Five New Members Entering Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame

The Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame (OSHOF) announced today it is inducting five members into its 2014 class, who will join over 250 individuals featured in the Hall’s gallery since opening its doors in 1968.

This year OSHOF will be inducting three athletes, four-time Olympic medalist Kristina Groves, three-time Grey Cup Champion with the Ottawa Rough Riders, Wayne Giardino and three-time Paralympic medalist with Team Canada’s Sledge hockey team Todd Nicholson. In addition, from the “Media” category OSHOF welcome a member and long-time Ottawa Citizen columnist Tom Casey, inducted into within our “Builders” category will be the patriarch of touch football in Ottawa, Ed Laverty.

“We are thrilled to announce and welcome this year’s new members to the Hall,” said OSHOF Chair Dave Best. “This year’s class represents a diverse group from several eras that have made significant contributions to elevating sports excellence within Ottawa. We’re happy for them, and proud of their accomplishments.”

“Our new inductees join an esteemed group of athletes, coaches and builders who make up Ottawa’s rich sports history.” said Mayor Jim Watson. “In their own ways, they have inspired others within our community to actively participate in shaping our sports landscape. We are grateful for their contributions.”

OTTAWA (November 7, 2011) - Ottawa's sports greats are once again proudly on display with the official opening of the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame at its new downtown location.
